Winnipeg PrICE Fixing?

Posted on April 17, 2010 in: Ice Machines

A federal probe is targeting allegations of price fixing in the $1.8 billion U.S. market for pre-packaged ice, according to a published report Thursday.

The investigation is being aided by a former executive at an ice company in Detroit, the Wall Street Journal reported. Charges were unveiled earlier this year against Cincinnati-based Home City Ice. Co., which pled guilty to conspiracy.

The investigation has also focused on two other major players in the industry: Reddy Ice Holdings of Dallas , and Arctic Glacier Inc., based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, according to the report.

Neither company has been charged with wrongdoing. Both have said they’re cooperating with the investigation.

If you are selling ice at your location consider getting an ice machine and taking matters into your own hand. Ice is one of the highest margin items you can sell.

I have read about this before, they get together and decide on the price of ice and divide the territory. Ice is one thing I never think much about the price, but I bet the mark up is huge.

Ice is one of those items that you don’t ask how much, we think that it has to be cheap because it is just ice.
